    10. Agron

      Agron

Agron is a predominantly later Roman hoard with a very small number of other coins mixed in.

I would think this hoard dates from around 250Ad as the bulk of the coins seem to be from this period judging by the dimension. You will also find the odd earlier and larger coins in here that were still in use at the time. Size wise the coins range from about 6mm to about 25mm with the average size being around 15mm that was very typical for the period in question.

There also seems to be some fairly interesting hoard finds with some beads, parts of brooches and rings as well as other unidentified artefacts in it.

So if you are interested in purchasing mainly later Roman coins this is the hoard for you. These later coins offer great value for money as later Roman production techniques meant that the coins were lighter than their earlier counterparts. This means that on average this hoard should yield around 530 coins per Kg based on our sample.

    11. Naevia

      Naevia

Naevia is a nice 17.5Kg hoard of coins; it is made up from a good selection of early Roman and Greek coins. We are fortunate that this hoard is pretty good in terms of size and weight. It almost exclusively comprises of very large chunky Roman coins that average around 25-30mm, and a mix of ancient Greek coins that are about 15mm in diameter and nice and thick.

Most of the coins seem to be intact with very few chipped or broken ones. The coins offer great prospecting opportunities, as they are such early coins. I would imagine that after cleaning they will turn out to be a variety of early classical Greek and Colonial Roman coins. Some of the Roman coins are marked “SC” or "senatus consulto," or "by the decree of the Senate so are probably colonial or provincial coins.

These large early coins are becoming very hard to get these days, and with a great percentage of Greek coins mixed in, this hoard certainly should prove to be very interesting when cleaned.

    12. Lucretia

      Lucretia

This is a hoard of sympathetically cleaned coins that is from a long-standing collector in Europe.

This 3.5KG hoard is of exceptional quality, and is almost exclusively made up of wonderful early Greek classical coins of around 300 BC with great detail on them, many of the coins will require very little if any cleaning before attribution.

This hoard of coins is truly an interesting and mythical snapshot of one of the most interesting periods in history. Some of them have Zeus on them; others have the fork of Poseidon, Pegasus, Griffins, Horses, and many more.

It is a rare opportunity to be able to purchase such wonderful and interesting coins like this ready for a attribution and maybe a bit more sympathetic cleaning.

We generally are unable to offer coins like this, as the supply is so sporadic. They always prove to be very popular and collectable for investment or pure interest. You can tell that hour after hour of painstaking work has gone into cleaning these coins so gently.

    13. Janus

      Janus

This is a nice hoard 14Kg that we managed to purchase at a good price so it is offered for sale at a really competitive rate. It has some noticeable Islamic silver coins in it as well as a good solid range of Roman, Greek, Byzantine, Judean coins. Some of the coins are quite encrusted so really could be anything once you have cleaned them up.

A fair few of the coins are already showing a fair amount of detail before cleaning and have a nice desert patina. Massive collectable variety of coins here with a few really nice looking ancient Greek coins.

    15. Ilithyia

      Ilithyia

This 22KG is an absolutely wonderful Roman Hoard, it really does have everything in it that collectors or enthusiasts like. It is probably the best Roman hoard that we have ever had for a number of reasons. Firstly it has a lot of noticeable Roman Silver coins in it. While taking the photographs I would say that well over 40 of these silver coins were visible with a good few more that were completely Black that were also probably silver or silver. Also this hoard has a great balance between smaller and larger coins. As you can see from the pictures there is a lot of the very desirable larger Roman coins in here with a lot of them marked with "SC" on the reverse. There are some really nice sized "Roman Follis" I would say they are at least 20mm in size. In terms of cleaning, the balance here is perfect you have a lot of the coins already showing a bit of the intriguing detail yet crusty enough to keep you guessing at what you might find. They certainly don’t tend to come up like this very often it is one of those hoards that people will probably be talking to us about for several years as they continue to discover interesting and historical pieces. Another interesting point is that this hoard has virtually no hoard finds other than coins so it was certainly just a coin cache in ancient times. Altogether a great opportunity to have a lot of prospecting and attribution fun with this hoard.
