Maia
This is one of the most varied Hoards that I have seen in quite some time, it has some noticeable Silver coins in there (mainly Islamic). A higher than average amount of early thicker Roman, and Greek coins. As well as a very pleasing amount of Seleucid and fractional Greeks by the looks of it.
There are some nice visible Widows mites in here, and a great mix of Byzantine and Roman coins. So all in all, a fantastically “varied hoard” with some great prospects to find some very interesting and rare coins. These highly varied hoards are always extremely popular; they offer a vast variety of coins from a major ancient trading region of the world. You really never know what kind of rare or interesting gems that you can find. Often these hoards contain coins with Zeus, Cleopatra, and other legendary figures in them. You know what they say “variety is the spice of life”. These are from a region renowned for some very rare, valuable, and interesting finds so they “ALWAYS” prove to be something a little different.

Hades Byzantine cup coins
This is a really interesting hoard made up exclusively of Byzantine cup coins. They date from around 11th century and are very collectable. This shape of coinage was far harder to strike than normal flat coins and was issued up until around the 14th century. These will make for fantastic cleaning and numbers of them are still stuck together in piles where they lay undisturbed until discovery. They offer extremely good value for money and are coins that when cleaned have a good value to them. This hoard is entirely made up of these very interesting yet collectable coins.

Pegasus Greek Hoard
This 3KG hoard is of exceptional quality and is almost exclusively made up of wonderful early Greek classical coins of around 300 BC with great detail on them, many of the coins will require very little if any cleaning before attribution. We have lovingly named this hoard Pegasus after the mythical winged Greek Stallion as so many of the coins have visible horses on them. There are also other coins with Griffins on them and other lovely pictures.

This is a very nice hoard if you love Ptolemy coins, is has a far higher number in it than we would typically see. I would estimate at somewhere around 10% by weight of this hoard is made up from these very collectable and valuable coins.

Jupiter Hoard
Without question this is the best Crusty Hoards that we have ever had. Weighing in at 22Kgs, it is thankfully a good size as I can’t foresee one coming up this good again in a very long time, but it will not hang around for long. It is a potential treasure trove for collectors as it has so much going for it. This Hoard offers the potential for some very ancient, rare and valuable finds.

Here we have a nice Hoard of around 16Kg, found in the Jerusalem area of the Holyland. This area was one of the most historic and heavily traded areas of the world in ancient times. It is steeped in History, and within less than 1000 years was occupied numerous amounts of times leading to one of the most diversified and varied uses of currency anywhere in the world. Unlike today where coins have a relatively short shelf life, in ancient times different coinage from different rulers were still actively used well after they had gone. The result of this means you have the opportunity in hoards like this to find some of the most interesting coinage of ancient times.
As an example it is not unusual to find coins from Alexander the great as he conquered the Persians. Then the Judeans came under the control of the Macedonians. Then Jerusalem fell to the Ptolemaic dynasty under Ptolemy I, in 198 BC. Ptolemy V then lost Jerusalem to the Seleucids. By 63 BC then Pompey the great captured Jerusalem. After then it had a period of Roman, Byzantine, and Persian rule.
All of the above cultures and dynasties are captured in this hoard. Each with their own story to tell, as an example Ptolemy coins are extremely collectable and often have pictures of the Gods on them such as Zeus the father of God’s. It is also not uncommon to find coins with Cleopatra on from this particular area, as well as the very collectable Seleucid coins.

Ares
This is a great hoard of around 90+% Ancient Classical Greek coins, with a sprinkle of Roman and Byzantine by the looks of it. Everyone loves Greek classical coins, they are so beautiful, collectable, valuable and generally far more sought after than most other coinage of the time. These are all real nice thick and chunky coins that will be extremely exciting to clean up. Although crusty enough to offer almost a complete surprise of what lies beneath you can see some beautiful classical detail on some of them with Gods, as well as Horses, Pegasus, Griffins, Poseidon, and great looking Eagles. This hoard offers extremely good prospecting opportunities to potentially uncover some rare and exciting coins after being cleaned. As a guess I would say that the majority of them are very early at around 2-300 BC. Also the few noticeable Roman coins in here seem to also be nice early examples generally. I am sure these will be a very rewarding investment of both time and money as you clean them, not to mention the history and mythology coming to life right in your hands. Typically these early coins tend to clean up very well, as the base metal was very high quality to start with.
