Here are some great value unattributed Roman and Greek silver coins that came from a collection in Europe. All of them are attributable, but some show some signs of use so they are a slightly lower grade than our premium ones that we have for sale. That being said they are a really interesting lot of Silver coins for a number of reasons. Firstly a lot of these coins are far earlier silver coins than we normally see, and secondly despite some of them showing some wear there are some extremely collectable and valuable coins here. I attributed a few coins and they included a L Papius Serrate, AR Denarius, Poblicius Q.F . Serrate Denarius, Titurius L. F Sabinus, and a Silver Drachm of Apollonia with Cow and calf. These are fantastic value for money and would certainly generate a nice return if you were to attribute them and sell them separately.

Here we have a Middle Eastern hoard that has influences from Greece, the early Roman Empire as well as some Byzantine and possibly Islamic coins in it. The vast majority of these coins are very large for a Middle Eastern hoard. Some are showing some detail already and should prove to be interesting coins. The few smaller coins tend to be the earlier ones as well. I have only noticed one or two smaller Roman silver coins in here but they did seem to have nice detail on them. We always struggle to get earlier hoards mainly made up of larger coins from this region, but when they come up they are quite interesting and varied.

Here we have an early Greek hoard, they are mainly made up of the chunky slightly domed coins with the odd variation as a rough guess I would say the vast majority of them will be around 200 BC . A fair few of them already show some detail, you can see some with horses on some of them as well as mythical creatures and Gods. These types of hoards are generally very popular as everyone loves Greek coins and the values tend to be a lot higher than their roman counterparts. This is due in part to the interesting subject matter and also due to the fact that they are not so common and tend to clean up better. This hoard should be very interesting to clean and attribute. Although some show some good detail a lot of them will hold onto their secrets until they have been cleaned.

This is a mainly low-grade late Roman hoard with a few Byzantine coins and the odd Greek coin mixed in. We often get asked for Roman coins at lower price points. This one fits the bill, they are certainly the cheapest coins that we have ever sold, and they are in typical uncleaned condition. Some show some promising detail so will be cleanable and attributable, but others will never clean up as a lot of late Roman coins were made of a very thin poor quality bronze. But we are sure that these are the cheapest ethically obtained late Roman coins available anywhere on the Internet at the moment. They also seem to show a far better variety than most others available on the Internet.

This is a rather pleasant hoard of mainly Roman coins; it has a nice mix of the rarer large coins as well as the smaller denominations. There is also a nice helping of silver coins in this hoard, we must have seen at least 30 or 40 while we were pouring the coins out on the table to take photographs, but as we don’t stage our photographs there are only a couple visible in the pictures.

This hoard seems to have some very interesting coins in it and should prove to be a lot of fun when cleaning and attributing them. A good few coins are already showing some detail so I would say it is “over average” for a hoard of this nature.

This is a mainly Greek hoard with some interesting earlier Roman coins in it. Everyone always loves cleaning Greek coins as they often contain mythical creatures and can often prove to be very interesting and more valuable than their Roman counterparts. We believe that there should be some very interesting coins contained in this hoard. It has a good feel to it and a few that are already showing detail are ones that we have never seen before.

If you are looking for something with some real variety and rarity that is mainly Greek then we think that this hoard should not disappoint.

      Alexander

This is without question one of the nicest hoards that we have ever had the pleasure of offering for sale. This complete hoard of 99 Alexander the Great coins are from around 300BC and were originally from a long-standing German collection. They all show fantastic detail even in their current state, and share a wonderful patina.

Owning this hoard of coins is a very rare opportunity, and I can say with almost complete certainty there will never be another opportunity to purchase such a historic and lovely hoard of Greek coins.

The obverse of the coins has a few different designs on including Horses, Bows, and other designs. These can be very sought after and rare coins and after attribution and carful cleaning (if you really want to) will be a great investment.

We normally sell hoards broken down by weight but on this occasion we can only offer the complete hoard for sale, as it would be too much of a shame to split it. It is priced very conservatively for such a wonderful hoard of coins in such strong condition.

A real once in a lifetime purchase!!! Complete hoard of coins £2500.

This hoard consists of a good deal of Roman and Greek coins, with some larger examples of both mixed in. It is quite hard to see exactly what kind of coins could be included here as a lot of them are crusty enough to retain most of their secrets still, yet others do give a glimpse of what lies beneath. Some very nice coins here by size and weight compared to a lot of other hoards that we get.

These unlearned coins are in typical in condition; I would say that they would be particularly suited to those people wanting to take some time to do them properly as there could well be some very interesting finds here. They have a wonderful feel in hand and just need to be cleaned to unlock the secrets.

This is an absolutely lovely late Roman hoard; if you are looking for almost entirely premium condition coins then this is the one for you. All the coins have a lovely patina and as you can see virtually every coin already shows wonderful detail prior to cleaning. This hoard has been extremely well preserved as a lot of late Roman coins did not last the test of time very well due to the thickness of the coins and often unfavourable ground conditions.

In honesty most of the coins will need no cleaning at all, or only very minor cleaning. Certainly I would recommend nothing more than distilled water on most of these or simply a bit of wax. Getting uncleaned premiums like this is almost impossible as they are so strong condition wise any normal dealer would simply sell them separately as they will be worth a lot more money.

Have a look at the few coins that have simply had wax put on them, these took literally two minutes to do and have not even been in distilled water. These will be great fun to clean and attribute.

These are absolutely beautiful mainly Roman silver coins. We were fortunate enough to be able to purchase this entire premium collection recently from a collector in Europe, and are very excited about being able to offer them for sale. As you can see the detail on them is generally excellent, and condition wise they all range from good to extremely fine. They are all unattributed and like other lots of Silver coins that we have sold previously will certainly contain some unusual and rare coins.

This is a great mainly Greek hoard; it is very dusty but even after a simple rinse under the tap you can see that a lot of them already show good detail with no effort at all. I would think that the vast majority of these coins will clean up really well given some time. And certainly just a few days in distilled water will start to show some great results judging by the ones we rinsed off here.

Everyone loves Greek coins; they are rarer and more collectable than their Roman counterparts and often because of the better alloys used they tend to clean up showing a greater level of detail.

All of these coins are nice and chunky as you would expect from earlier Greek coins.

Undoubtedly these coins will make really interesting cleaning and attribution. We did not want to give them all a rinse before taking the pictures to get the dust and loose dirt off so it really will be a surprise as to what is in here.

    15. Nemesis

      Nemesis

This is a very handsome 8Kg hoard that is made up of a mix of mainly Greek with some early Roman Provincials. The Roman coins are generally Follis sized and have a nice feel to them. Some of the Roman coins have some visible legend and a lot of them have fairly raised portions indicating that some good detail will probably show after cleaning. The Greek coins certainly won’t disappoint, as they are the early classical type and have a range of wonderful images on them including, Gods, Dolphins, Tridents, Horses, Griffins etc.

Our feelings are that a good percentage of these coins will clean up really well with a bit of time and patience. We would probably say that they are well over average in terms of having detail showing prior to cleaning.

This kind of hoard has the potential to find some really interesting and valuable coins especially for those people who collect Greek coins. The popularity of these kinds of uncleaned coins will certainly mean that this hoard will last long.
