Plutus Hoard
Unclean and unsorted Roman coins from a completely untouched 14 Kg Hoard that I have affectionately named the Plutus Hoard located in the UK. Hoards of this variety and quality rarely become available to buy any more. This is a very special hoard to buy from and I am not sure when or if there will be another like this one.

Here we have a Middle Eastern hoard that has influences from Greece, the early Roman Empire as well as some Byzantine and possibly Islamic coins in it. The vast majority of these coins are very large for a Middle Eastern hoard. Some are showing some detail already and should prove to be interesting coins. The few smaller coins tend to be the earlier ones as well. I have only noticed one or two smaller Roman silver coins in here but they did seem to have nice detail on them. We always struggle to get earlier hoards mainly made up of larger coins from this region, but when they come up they are quite interesting and varied.

These are the cheapest silver, silver washed, and debased silver coins we have ever had for sale, most need cleaning, some are chipped but all are great value! There are Greek, Roman, and a few Byzantine coins here and they are SERIOUSLY CHEAP with 10 coins for just £99.95.

Here are some great value unattributed Roman and Greek silver coins that came from a collection in Europe. All of them are attributable, but some show some signs of use so they are a slightly lower grade than our premium ones that we have for sale. That being said they are a really interesting lot of Silver coins for a number of reasons. Firstly a lot of these coins are far earlier silver coins than we normally see, and secondly despite some of them showing some wear there are some extremely collectable and valuable coins here. I attributed a few coins and they included a L Papius Serrate, AR Denarius, Poblicius Q.F . Serrate Denarius, Titurius L. F Sabinus, and a Silver Drachm of Apollonia with Cow and calf. These are fantastic value for money and would certainly generate a nice return if you were to attribute them and sell them separately.

These are absolutely beautiful mainly Roman silver coins. We were fortunate enough to be able to purchase this entire premium collection recently from a collector in Europe, and are very excited about being able to offer them for sale. As you can see the detail on them is generally excellent, and condition wise they all range from good to extremely fine. They are all unattributed and like other lots of Silver coins that we have sold previously will certainly contain some unusual and rare coins.

This is the best hoard that we have seen in quite some time for a number of reasons. As it is from central Europe it has a great mix of coins in it. I would say that around 90% are Roman including some provincials with the remainder being Greek.
In terms of a breakdown of this hoard it has a healthy concentration of larger coins with a lot of them showing some promising detail. A lot of the smaller coins here are approaching premium uncleaned condition with a good amount of detail already showing. I would say that a well over average amount of these smaller coins would clean up. After running a handful under the tap you could see promising details on well over half of them as the top layers of dirt rinsed off.
This hoard has one of the highest concentrations of Roman Silver coins, or Silver washed coins in it that I can ever remember seeing. They are mainly Roman, but I did also notice a few Greek ones so it is quite unusual in that regard as Greek Silver coins can be fairly valuable.
My overall impression of this hoard is very good for cleaning; it has a good variety of coins in a range of sizes in over average condition. The added benefit of the higher amounts of Roman silver coins is especially pleasing. It should prove to be very interesting to clean, with some of the coins starting to show detail with just a rinse in water.

Saxa Silver coins
Here we have an ethically obtained collection of unsorted and unattributed Silver coins. Most of these will require cleaning. In terms of the coins themselves most of them are Roman, however there does appear to be the odd Greek and Byzantine silver coin also.

This is a better than average hoard from Jerusalem as it has a good amount of coins that already have some detail showing. These hoards historically are some of most interesting and varied around. Apart from some interesting coins this hoard has a variety of interesting hoard artefact’s including some Rings and Arrows along with some other curious objects. There also seems to be a few silver coins in here but they are mainly Islamic by the looks of it.
Coin wise it shows some nice Greek, Roman, Seleucid, Islamic and Byzantine that is characteristic for coins that were traded in the centre of the 'ancient world'.
From previous experience these hoards can yield very rare coins that were often traded in the Holyland. The ground conditions in the region are favourable for preservation although it should be noted that some of the coins in the region were in circulation for very long periods of time.

Apart from having to pay a 'kings ransom' for this hoard because of the quality and the fact it has some silver in it, it is everything that we had hoped for. Without question this is the very best late Roman hoard that we have EVER had. A far higher percentage of the coins than normal carry good starting detail, some are unquestionable premium in terms of uncleaned quality. A great deal of these coins will require very little cleaning, if at all in some cases. And you certainly get the feeling that even the crustier ones should also clean up given a little patience.
There is also a few visible silver and silvered coins to be found in here, that just add to the excitement. It is a very rare thing to see late Roman hoards come up that are so nice off the bat. Not sure if we will ever get another one that is so nice, if you like cleaning more premium quality later Roman coins then this is the one for you.

This is a rather pleasant hoard of mainly Roman coins; it has a nice mix of the rarer large coins as well as the smaller denominations. There is also a nice helping of silver coins in this hoard, we must have seen at least 30 or 40 while we were pouring the coins out on the table to take photographs, but as we don’t stage our photographs there are only a couple visible in the pictures.
This hoard seems to have some very interesting coins in it and should prove to be a lot of fun when cleaning and attributing them. A good few coins are already showing some detail so I would say it is “over average” for a hoard of this nature.

This is one of those hoards that you will wish you bought more of. We can honestly say it is one of the most interesting ones we have seen in the last five years. It has a wide and varied range of interesting coins in it that are in lovely uncleaned condition. It has a range of Roman coins including Radiates, Denarii, interesting Follis as well as the odd provincial mixed in with a good amount of silver Roman coins. It also has an interesting mix of Byzantine and Greek coins, including a lot of examples that we have never seen before as well as some Judean coins. Our gut feeling is that there could be some really exciting and rare coins in here, and the condition of these coins are really good. We would say that the vast majority of these coins are also premium uncleaned coins condition wise with a lot of them requiring not a lot more than a bit of wax to bring the natural beauty out before attributing them.

Every now and then you get to see some absolutely lovely coins, and these are them. The pictures don’t really do them justice but the vast majority of these premium coins will need very little cleaning, and in fact most of them will look pleasing and be attributable with little more than a quick soak in distilled water or some Renwax put on them.

Here we have higher grade mainly Roman silver coins, a lot of them show some really good detail or are rarer types of coins. All of these should be easily attributable.
