Here we have a Middle Eastern hoard that has influences from Greece, the early Roman Empire as well as some Byzantine and possibly Islamic coins in it. The vast majority of these coins are very large for a Middle Eastern hoard. Some are showing some detail already and should prove to be interesting coins. The few smaller coins tend to be the earlier ones as well. I have only noticed one or two smaller Roman silver coins in here but they did seem to have nice detail on them. We always struggle to get earlier hoards mainly made up of larger coins from this region, but when they come up they are quite interesting and varied.

Every now and then we get some of these very sympathetically cleaned and unattributed Greek coins from a collector in Europe as he is selling off his collection. Hours and hours have been painstakingly spent cleaning these coins in a way to preserve the Patina.

These wonderful classical Greek coins are extremely collectable and once attributed can command goods amounts of money. They have a lot of mythical pictures on them including the Trident of Poseidon, wonderful Horses and Gods like Zeus.

These coins are always a real treat to own and attribute and tend to always sell quickly.

This is an absolutely lovely late Roman hoard; if you are looking for almost entirely premium condition coins then this is the one for you. All the coins have a lovely patina and as you can see virtually every coin already shows wonderful detail prior to cleaning. This hoard has been extremely well preserved as a lot of late Roman coins did not last the test of time very well due to the thickness of the coins and often unfavourable ground conditions.

In honesty most of the coins will need no cleaning at all, or only very minor cleaning. Certainly I would recommend nothing more than distilled water on most of these or simply a bit of wax. Getting uncleaned premiums like this is almost impossible as they are so strong condition wise any normal dealer would simply sell them separately as they will be worth a lot more money.

Have a look at the few coins that have simply had wax put on them, these took literally two minutes to do and have not even been in distilled water. These will be great fun to clean and attribute.

Apart from having to pay a 'kings ransom' for this hoard because of the quality and the fact it has some silver in it, it is everything that we had hoped for. Without question this is the very best late Roman hoard that we have EVER had. A far higher percentage of the coins than normal carry good starting detail, some are unquestionable premium in terms of uncleaned quality. A great deal of these coins will require very little cleaning, if at all in some cases. And you certainly get the feeling that even the crustier ones should also clean up given a little patience.

There is also a few visible silver and silvered coins to be found in here, that just add to the excitement. It is a very rare thing to see late Roman hoards come up that are so nice off the bat. Not sure if we will ever get another one that is so nice, if you like cleaning more premium quality later Roman coins then this is the one for you.

This is a collection of really wonderful unattributed cleaned Greek coins from a collector in Europe, and is certainly some of the nicest Greek coins that we have ever seen. They have been meticulously and painstakingly cleaned to an exceptionally high standard. Cleaning coins to this level is something that is not easy to do and extremely time consuming as most of them retain a wonderful patina.

Among these unattributed coins are some great examples of the ancient Greek coinage. There is a wide variety and range of coins here that will prove to be really interesting and often valuable once attributed.

When we have had these coins from the same collector in the past they have always sold really well with the same customers purchasing again and again.

Here we have some crustier lower grade Greek coins that will prove to be a bit more challenging to clean than normal. Greek coins do tend to clean up well as long as you persist with them; some of the coins here show some detail but the majority of them will take a fair bit of cleaning before they start to show the fruits of your labour but priced accordingly.

On the plus side because these coins are on the crustier side it really does mean that there could be almost anything in here.

These ancient Roman arrows are fantastic, they have all been sympathetically and professionally cleaned by an enthusiastic collector. They must of taken many many hours to clean so nicely yet a lot of them retain a wonderful patina.

They range in size from about 1.5cm to some that are about 8cm long, on average they are probably around 2-4 cm each in length. These are very varied as some of them have holes in them where they would have been filled with poison, others are barbed, some have just two raised edges while others have three or four.

These will make a fantastic display piece or accompaniment to any ancient coin collection.

      Moneta (Cleaned)

This is a large collection of wonderfully cleaned ancient Roman and Byzantine rings. It is not normally the kind of thing we sell, but when we were offered them they were just to nice to pass up.

Most of the rings are made of Bronze with the odd Silver or Pewter ones, they range from being elaborately decorated to some with more simple designs. Some of them are "keyrings" if you ever wondered where the keyring originated from, literally it was an ancient ring with a key on it.

Size wise they really do range, there are some small enough to fit on a child's finger and some large enough for a modern day man. Almost all the rings are complete a few seem to have a split in the actual ring as an ancient design feature to make them adjustable.

These are really fascinating and cleaned to a very nice standard, would make great display pieces. They are a great price considering the great detail on most of them and the fact they have been cleaned very sympathetically.

This is a mainly low-grade late Roman hoard with a few Byzantine coins and the odd Greek coin mixed in. We often get asked for Roman coins at lower price points. This one fits the bill, they are certainly the cheapest coins that we have ever sold, and they are in typical uncleaned condition. Some show some promising detail so will be cleanable and attributable, but others will never clean up as a lot of late Roman coins were made of a very thin poor quality bronze. But we are sure that these are the cheapest ethically obtained late Roman coins available anywhere on the Internet at the moment. They also seem to show a far better variety than most others available on the Internet.

This is without question one of the nicest hoards that we have ever had the pleasure of offering for sale. This complete hoard of 99 Alexander the Great coins are from around 300BC and were originally from a long-standing German collection. They all show fantastic detail even in their current state, and share a wonderful patina.

Owning this hoard of coins is a very rare opportunity, and I can say with almost complete certainty there will never be another opportunity to purchase such a historic and lovely hoard of Greek coins.

The obverse of the coins has a few different designs on including Horses, Bows, and other designs. These can be very sought after and rare coins and after attribution and carful cleaning (if you really want to) will be a great investment.

We normally sell hoards broken down by weight but on this occasion we can only offer the complete hoard for sale, as it would be too much of a shame to split it. It is priced very conservatively for such a wonderful hoard of coins in such strong condition.

A real once in a lifetime purchase!!! Complete hoard of coins £2500.

      Amisos

This is without question one of the nicest hoards that I have ever had the pleasure of seeing. The detail even before cleaning is striking with well over 90% of the coins being instantly attributable in their current state. Pontos is often considered the home of the Amazons.

The first travels of Greek merchants and adventurers to the Pontian region occurred probably from around 1000 BC, whereas their settlements would become steady and solidified cities only by the 8th and 7th centuries BC as archaeological findings document. This fits in well with a foundation date of 731 BC as reported by Eusebius of Caesarea for Sinope, perhaps the most ancient of the Greek Colonies in what was later to be called Pontus.[12] The epical narratives related to the travels of Jason and the Argonauts to Colchis, the tales of Heracles' navigating the Black Sea and Odysseus' wanderings into the land of the Cimmerians, as well as the myth of Zeus constraining Prometheus to the Caucasus mountains as a punishment for his outwitting the Gods.
